It will either continuously recharge the vehicle battery or more directly, will give power to an electric motor which is then used to drive the vehicle. Since this fuel-economizing vehicle generates its own electricity, it contrasts markedly with a vehicle runs strictly static internal batteries. An obvious advantage here is that there is no waiting while your car charges up outside in the garage before you go to work. All that is required is to get in to the vehicle, turn on the ignition and drive. Electrical vehicles have indeed been around for sometime have enjoyed varying degrees of success. The Real Story of the American Classic Car the Studebaker Automobile "Was it coming or going?" or the "Bullet-nose car", was what they were saying about the American Classic Car the Studebaker of the '50's. The Studebaker family had hired a French designer "Loewy" to design a car to compete with "Fords, Chevrolets and Plymouths" that have become what we call the Classic Cars of the 1950's. Many of these Classic Cars including Studebaker Automobiles can be seen at moat of the Classic Car Auctions around the country at any given time. The famous Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction usually has several on their list of Classic Cars for Sale every year. A list of the most sought after Studebaker models would include the 1963 Studebaker Daytona, 62 Studebaker, Studebaker, Studebaker Cruiser, Studebaker Starliner, Studebaker Golden Hawk, Studebaker Skyhawk, 1950 Studebaker Coupe, Studebaker Pick-up, Studebaker S10, Studebaker Avnti, and the Studebaker 1913 Runabout. The Studebaker family produced wagons for the military during the Civil War which became the Base for their automobile production that began in the very early 1900's. By the 1920's the company was well known for having a very good automobile. Then in the early part of World War II they began produce equipment under contract for the military which included B-17 Flaying Fortress engines, the dependable M29 and M29C Weasel Amphibious Landing Craft. The contract for the US6x6 military transport Truck lead to the production to their first pick-up truck the M-series that appeared in 1941 and was an immediate hit with the American farmer. The company, however by the mid 1960's was heading for the end of its life in the automotive field because they had lost their reputation as an innovative designer of durable, rugged and reliable vehicles. The Studebaker family history dated back to the 18th century in Germany. The Staudenbeckers were blade makers in the City of Solingen, which was famous for its cutlery. However, the Staudenbeckers felt that it lacked the freedoms they desired. They had heard and thought about eventually immigrating to the new world, but this was not easy. Although it took over five years they eventually immigrated to the new world. This was the beginning of a change in profession for them and eventually a new industry in the new world. In 1836, when they were finally free to move to the world and because of the immigration clerks, unfamiliarity with German, their name was recorded with many variations, eventually becoming Studebaker. In the early days they were blacksmiths, then moving on to wagon making. Even then, trusting there abilities, they settled on a design which became world famous as the Conestoga Wagon. One son, however, John Mohler Studebaker, chose to make his fortune in the Gold Rush of California. However, when discovering that the good land was gone, he decided to provide a service instead. Hence he designed a wheelbarrow becoming known as Wheelbarrow Johnny. These rugged and sturdy wheelbarrows were sold to the miners until the end of the gold rush. Between the Conestoga Wagon of the father and the wheelbarrow of the son, the Studebaker family became know for producing durable and reliable items. Consequently the Studebaker Wagons became legendary and the family was well on their way to a place in history. They didn't begin producing automobiles until 1902. However when the company sent a wire to President Wilson offering to make all of its facilities available for war production, once Studebaker became famous. Because of their war efforts of turning out wagons, trucks, ambulances, gun carriages and other items they earned a reputation for rugged, durable vehicles. This led to increased sales and prosperity for the company. There failure to invest in new equipment after the war was the beginning of the end that eventually led to their downfall. For a while the development of the " Studebaker Lark" helped keep the company's head above water, but it wasn't sufficient. They tried again with the "Studebaker Avanti" in '64. Mechanical difficulties caused it to fail. They also built a few cars with Superchargers installed on their V8's but even that was not enough to save them. Although not considered a Classic Muscle Car it was fast for it's time. As a result they never again returned to having the reliable reputation of their ancestors. In a time when gas prices have eclipsed the $3 mark and continue to climb, fuel-efficient vehicles have seen their stocks rise. With U.S. consumers finally moving away from gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs, smart, a division of Mercedes Benz, has decided to debut the smart fortwo - a two-person car that measures only 8.8 feet long - in the United States.
The smart fortwo is the shortest car on the market and the company claims you could fit two of them in a single parking space. The vehicle's innovative design even earned it exhibit space in the Museum of Modern Art in New York City - one of only six cars ever to bear that distinction. With over 770,000 fortwos already on the road worldwide, smart is now ready to introduce this much-buzzed-about car to the U.S. market. The company has opened up an online smart fortwo Reservation Program, allowing interested buyers to reserve their choice of model and color for a $99 fee (applied to the eventual purchase of a fortwo or refundable at any time). Once smart finalizes its dealership locations in the U.S. (expected to be announced at the end of January), dealers will begin calling reservation holders to formalize their purchase agreements.
Three different models of the smart fortwo will be available in the U.S.: the entry-level pure (starting at $11,590), the well-equipped passion coupe (starting at $13,590) and the convertible passion cabriolet (starting at $16,590). All of the models come with a 3-cylinder, 1-liter gasoline powered engine and have an electronically limited top speed of 90 mph. The gas tank holds 8.7 gallons, and the smart fortwo is designed to achieve 40 city/45 highway according to 2007 EPA standards (or 33 city/41 highway miles according to the EPA's revised 2008 standards). Along with standard safety features like electronic stability program and ABS brakes, smart also touts the vehicle's tridion safety cell - designed to keep occupants protected in the event of a crash through displacement of impact and redistribution of energy.
Perhaps what surprises people the most considering the compact size of the smart fortwo is the amount of space inside of the vehicle. The back of the car features 8 cubic feet of storage space (12 feet if you load to the roof line), and smart also notes that the fortwo has the same amount of headroom as most luxury vehicles. Other innovations incorporated into the production of the fortwo include the use of energy efficient and recyclable materials, removable door panels (you can actually change or mix and match colors for the car) and a high driving position for visibility. With its fuel-efficiency, compact size and unique design, the smart fortwo could very well become this year's Mini Cooper - a car that's both practical to drive and hip to own.

Ferrari will display the new F430 GT California at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show made to compete against the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. A feature is the folding roof in the 2+2 convertible coupe.
Although Ferrari is known for its timeless designs, the engines get equal press attention. The F430 GT will feature the same motor as the F430 and an updated chassis to accommodate the roof and rigidity when the roof is down. Pininfarina will design this Ferrari and features the most up to date release of the F430 aluminum spaceframe.
The F430 GT California will sport underneath the hood a 4.3 liter V8 direct injection engine with an output of 450 hp. It will feature the same F1 "Superfast" sequential-shift gearbox as in the F430 Scuderia. As an option, the manual gearbox will be offered upon request.
The F1 Superfast will reduce gear change times to just 60 milliseconds. Additional features include the same Scuderia traction control which will combine the E-Diff electronic differential and the F1-Trac traction and stability control into a integrated system. Experts see the F430 GT California to do the 0 to 60 mph jaunt in less than four seconds and have a top speed of 195 mph. All this for just around $200,000 USD.
